All 7th & 8th students have the opportunity to earn
extra credit in science by entering their science display
boards in the science category for the Youth Exhibits
at the Pasco County Fair.  They were all given the
information before Christmas.  If you need another
copy, go to the Pasco County Fair website,
www.pascocountyfair.com and click on the fair icon,
then click on the exhibits link, then youth, scroll
down and click on youth exhibits rules. A new window
will open with a printable rule sheet. It contains dates
to register and leave the display board and pick up dates
and times.  I hope to see many SAS students' work on
display.  Remember your display board, notebook, models, etc.

Reading - We have started reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, and discussing discrimination, civil rights, and social justice.
Religion - We are utilizing Visions and Maryknoll booklets to enrich our religion lessons.  The Visions booklet is tied to the weekly liturgy. The Maryknoll booklets give us insight to the Church's missionary work worldwide.  We also use the Bible to look up Scripture related to our religion book lessons and The Catechism of the Catholic Church to help guide us.
Spelling - We are finishing the Vocabulary Workshop text, Units 13-15 and the review, then we will begin the Spelling and Vocabulary text.
Science - We are still working on the Physics units in 8th(Thermal Energy) Earth Science in both 7th (Fossils) and 6th (Weathering and Erosion) grades.
English - We will be doing review exercises and quizzes from the first semester the next few weeks and then continuing with the next chapter on prepositions.  We will also have another Criterion Writing assignment.  This is our second and will count as a grade (Our first, an expository writing, was our preview of the program and not graded).

ONLINE TEXTBOOK AND REVIEW VOCABULARY AND QUIZZES
To access the Florida Science textbook online, the student must type in the case sensitive user name and password specific for their grade.
6th user name:  FLSCG606 and password: e9ecPKks
7th grade user name: FLSCG706 and password: 3vMnFS3Q
8th user name: FLSCG806 and password: VSC9Tzwr

Students can go to the website without a password to access reviews and quizzes.

All students should have a copy of the science and language textbooks for your home computer, please send in a CD-R or CD-RW disk for each.

To access the Classroom Zone http://www.classzone.com/books/lnetwork_gr07/index.cfm?state=FL for the Language Network reviews and quizzes
students must enter the access code MCDJ38NR48WDA. Then each student creates a unique username and password to access the resources for students.
A review/reference site is www.eduplace.com/kids/hme/6_8 .  This is a great grammar review site from
our old text English. Another helpful site is www.grammar-quizzes.com/ , www.grammar-monster.com , and for interactive quizzes http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/ . Your child should have a copy of the Language Network and Florida Science text to
put on the computer.

To download an audio file of the vocabulary word, definition, part of speech, and sample sentence from each unit in the Vocabulary Workshop
textbook, students should go to www.sadlier-oxford.com and follow the directions.  This download can be burned to a CD-ROM or downloaded
to your iPod or computer. The www.eduplace.com/kids/hme/6_8 is also the sight for the Spelling and Vocabulary text we use during the second
semester.
