KINDERGARTEN
NEWS June 2010
Dear Parents,
We are wrapping things up in kindergarten. The class has worked so hard this year! They have become readers, authors, illustrators, mathematicians, scientists, historians, and friends. Thank you for having such wonderful children! I’ve learned so much about them and from them. It all helps me become a better teacher. I will miss them over the summer but I can’t wait to watch them as first graders. They are an eager group of readers and I have encouraged them to keep reading over the summer. There are also many great leveled books in libraries and bookstores that your kindergartner (first grader) will be able to read, or try to read independently. They know how to test out a book to see if it is “good” for them. Have fun with your readers!
We have finished our weather unit and are talking about plants. Mrs. Wood and I have finished the language arts and math assessments and the class has been doing some review across the curriculum. We have started to learn about money and half compared to whole. This class also enjoys math very much and really likes to act out and solve story problems. We had a wonderful Teddy Bear Picnic and a special thanks to Barbara and Duane Nichols for bringing in ice cream(as payment for getting Mr. Nichols wet at field day)!! We all introduced our special friends, listened to bear music and bear stories(with a special reading of The Kissing Hand by Mrs. Nichols). The students really enjoyed it!!
Again, I’d like to thank all of our Mystery Readers, the parents who sent in our EXTRA snack supply(BIG THANKS to Torie Page), and the parents who helped make all of our parties so great this year. We’ve made quite a team and you all made it happen. Enjoy the summer and your children! Thanks so much!
