Second Grade Class
You can teach a student a lesson for a day;
but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity,
he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.

Dear Parents,
Welcome to second grade and an exciting new school year! We are thrilled to be teaching your children! Second grade is a time of blossoming independence. Many activities and experiences have been planned for your second grade student. We will be working on various units of study in English Language Arts, Math and Social Studies and Science.
It is our goal to help your child be successful in school and excited about learning. If we work together we can ensure that they succeed.
This letter contains a lot of information, but it will be your guide to most things you need to know about your child's second grade year.
Hours of School: Our school day is from 8:50-3:10. Children will be admitted in the classroom beginning at 8:40. Children who arrive before this time, will remain in the front hallway under teacher supervision. Any child arriving after 9:00 needs to stop at the office to check in and receive a tardy pass.
Early Pick-Ups: If your child needs to be dismissed early and you know this ahead of time, you can either send in a note or email the office. If you need to get your child early from school, you must stop by the office. The office will notify the classroom.
Lunch: The second grade classes eat lunch 12:00-12:25. Hot lunch is $2.50, drinks $.35 and breakfast $2.00. When sending in money, please put it in an envelope clearly maked with your child's name and teacher.
Recess: 11:30-12:00. We have one, half hour recess daily.
Snack: We will have snack time daily, but it will be part of work board time. Please send in a halthy snack that can be eaten easily. (crackers, raisins, cur up fruit, etc.)
Homework: Homework is given every night except Friday in second grade. Students are expect4ed to complete and submit all homework by the due date. Please see the link for homework at the bottom of this page.
Conferences: We are available for conferences by appointment; before /after school, through email, phone or whenever you or your child's teacher feel they are necessary. these appointments must be made outside of instructional time. We also have parent teacher conferences in the fall and spring (see school calendar).
Supplies: Please limit your child's school supplies to the list that was sent home in June, as we have limited storage space.
